Non-christian music influence over Christians

I dont know if I'm the only one who experiment this particular disappointment about popular non-christian music. The other day I borrowed from a friend a dvd with Avril music videos and clips about her and the band and their tour "try to shut me up" and boy, I was shocked to see what I saw. One thing is to hear their music and think that it sounds cool and another thing is to see what they really are up to and into. Music is a powerful instrument created by God that will influence people for good or for bad, and there are way to many people out there using it for the wrong purpose and we are in one way or other participating of it. Music has the particularity of making someone do something, behave in a certain way or believe something. I am kind of concerned about so many christians listening to non-christian music and we are not paying attention to what they are bombarding us with their message. A song can sound harmless or even with a good theme but it doesnt really reflects what the singer and not only the singer but the producers and records company believes. For instance this song, "knock knock knock in heavens doors", appears to be good, but is that really the message the singer believes in? The same singer writes lyrics about rebellion which at the light of the Bible is at the same level than adultery, homicide among others, writes about ilicit sex and not in a way that is really obvious but very lightly and smoothly and we enjoy them, even sing them, buy their music and dance them. We are opening a door there to the devil to bomb our minds with his lies and dirtiness and little by little we get colder and colder in our spiritual life and we wonder why. I conclude that this is a big lie out there that says, "it doesnt matter that you are christian, you can listen to non-christian music and there is nothing wrong with it" its a lie that "those who radically opposes and warns about this are hopeless fanatics" Music carries a message, if it is not Christ-centered message then its flesh-centered message, satan-centered message and this word away from God-centered message and those are not good for any christian. It is not gonna be easy for me nor for no one to stop listening to non-christian music but with Christ help we are victorious and winners, so at the end we can and we must stop it.

You are right. I am especially put off by the perception of Christian music as "inferior." Not to mention Evanescance's recent comments towards the Cristian communtiy and their referral to their previous professions of faith as "childish indiscretions." I am, however, encouraged by recent breakthroughs by Christian artists into the mainstream markets. When people go out to buy those CDs, hopefully they hear a message they had previously been missing.

To tell you the truth I dont really mind what non-believers has to say about christian music, in terms of musical style, rhythm and even more lyrics. I dont mind if they label our music as inferior. As long as we don't then I dont see a problem, but it is there where we tend to fail, we who called ourselves christians, followers of Christ label christ-centered music as inferior because it is not popular and you dont see them winning radios and tv awards. We feel compeled to those artits with their music who at least doesnt sound evidently satanic and whose music is popular and then baang...we realized "if we are into the Spirit" that even those "harmless" messages has something else.

i understand what your saying but are you infering tha christians are gullable sorry bout the spelling but i mean if ther artist actualy believes that thats fine but its your choice to listen and believe i mean if your a christian than you know its not right to do it but if people are so gullable to do what the song says then thats there fault its just another way for the devil to tempt you but if you believe and pray theres no prob.

no offense, but that is another lie of the enemy, "nothing is gonna happen if you do so". The very first example of that particular trick satan used on man's history. He told Eve "nothing was gonna happen" and we all now what was the result. The Apostol Paul didnt warn us for no reason, when he said (paraphrasing): that we should find joy in our Lord singing spiritual songs. the King David found troughout his life that songs has a unique power to draw you close to your Lord God. non-christian musics doesnt carry anything that glorify our God and our souls, so that cannot draw us closer to our God. The Bible says, if we are not with Him (and that includes what we let our ears listen), we are against Him. And then, the second most powerful weapon of the enemy is accusation. When we finally fall down for his temptation he says "what kind of christian you say you are" "God doesnt love you the same way" "You are a sinner with no remedy" and we start falling more and more deeply. I say, we should choose to grow in our faith by reading more, listening more and letting God fills our needs, not the devil, the world our our flesh desires.
